When I was a kid I'd go over my grandparents house, as most kids do. Mine happened to have candy there as well, oh yours did too!? Crazy! So one of the candy items was Tootsie Rolls. They were my absolute favorite out of everything. I'd savor the flavor for as long as possible. I'd eat at least four of the big ones at a time. Ah, those were the days. I do have a point to my way-back machine and that would be the relation between a Tootsie Roll and the Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout.
Have you ever experienced something and it put you back in time and place so quickly and perfectly that you wished you could experience it over and over again? That's what happened with my first smell and sip of the SSOGC (because typing Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout many times is hard, yo!). I was dropped into my parents basement as a six year old scarfing down Tootsie Rolls, but in a good way. The scent and taste is so utterly chocolate without being overwhelming (provided it's at the right temperature). I do feel it's slightly too sweet, but that's my preference. The mouth feel is just right, enough body to sustain the taste without lingering too long. On the nose you basically get massive milk chocolate and some roast.
My exact words on Untappd are "Lovely liquid tootsie pop. Absolutely delicious milk chocolate, velvety mouth feel. New favorite!" And that's still how I feel about this beer, and really, the brewery in general. Oh, and did I mention that it's a certified organic product?

Wow, I'm thirsty now, and it's only Beerthirty! This beer is so perfect that my wife, who's not anywhere near a beer drinker, said she'd have another sip and then proceeded to drink more then what I thought a sip should be. That's results, ladies and gents. I applaud Samuel Smith's for their contribution to the beer world. I encourage all to seek out this Stout and other beers from this brewery. It's worth the price of admission.
To Samuel Smith's, thank you sir's, may I have another! Oh yeah and one for my wife, too.
